I often think to a Christmas long ago
Sitting at the adult table with a runner of gold
Two glasses in and reclined in my chair
Listening to voices that soon wouldn’t be there
The deep hold of etherness seizing me
That some Christmas will be the last Christmas

Poem: Tinsel Time
Wrap me up in tinsel
Pour me another drink
So when you unwind me
The world will spin when I spin

Like she does in her life
Ill fitting hard and rigid
That she contorts herself
To fit in conforming

winter ready to blossom
in cold whiteness of new snow
freeze hearts unready
for the coming storm

Time is like the slide
we climbed on the old playground
from the top the bottom seemed
far away
Poem: Ruby Red Lips
ruby red lips
full of vitality
a pained reminder
of the ravages
age upon body
Poem: Found in Plain Sight
Slender paper burning
Wisps into the Kansas night
Carrying away my memories
On thick dank fumes
Poem: Pumpkin Persona
from vine to gourd growing
big and round and plump
perfect orange better than my pumpkin kin
a testament to fall
waits in muddy field

The girl with ash-colored hair
Sits among the ash trees
Wearing the sun like a halo
As she waits for a train
Carrying her absent lover back

the dark purple hues
of an oncoming twilight
changes leaves colors
from bright yellow red orange
to darker shades in the eve
