Poem: Only Ash

The girl with ash-colored hair
Sits among the ash trees
Wearing the sun like a halo
As she waits for a train
Carrying her absent lover back
To see their newborn baby
Named Ashley after the old country
Where groves of ash grew freely

A quadrille based on “Ashes to Ashes” from SarahSouthWest‘s prompt over at d’Verse.

  1. Wearing the sun like a halo….the innocence here…the gentle beauty. My perception/read is that she is carrying the ashes back of her lover, to meet the newborn babe of their passionate love. A gentle sadness here …. and in the naming for the child Ashley for the trees, the ashes she carries.
