Poem: Pumpkin Persona

from vine to gourd growing
big and round and plump
perfect orange better than my pumpkin kin
a testament to fall
waits in muddy field

plucked from nurturing vine
by small hands searching
for a perfect vessel to hold their vision
of a halloween spook
in the dark of night

face carved deep in firm flesh
a wide toothy grin
with a candle burning bright amongst the guts
gives off a spooky glow
to keep away ghosts
