Poem: Coupling with Shadows

There’s always a smile on her lips
She’s careful that it never slips
To reveal what’s behind the mask
With a laugh for anyone who asks
Who she is away from the crowd
It’s a question that is not allowed
If you want to keep her affection
You have to accept a reflection
Of the woman you want to know
Always dancing with her shadow
Because pulling her into the light
Makes her disappear into the night
Might as well enjoy the evening
Until the moment she’s leaving
