When I lived in Bethlehem
Walking in streets paid for by steel
The star of the mountain always shone
Always brightest at Christmas time

Poem: Muerte Las Vegas
Here is sin personified
You can smell it in the air
Coaxing you in with its sweet
Tantalizing bouquet of fragrance
You can hear its seductive call
An androgynous voice subtle
Poem: Struggle of Faith
In the dark I can see your light
Undimmed by your made spirit weary
From attempts at mind control
Through the images of a broken body
Hung up by nails and promises
Of salvation if you’d just believe
Poem: Things Lost
What is lost can never be saved
Is what they told her while kneeling
On achy knees before a dusty alter
Listening to damnation sermons
When everything is seen as a sin
No choice except to be a sinner
Being a saint was never an option
Poem: The Crossroads
Down in the Mississippi delta
The trees weep on the wind
Momma’s tell their babies
They’re weeping for souls
Of those who lived in sin
The ramblers and wanders
Who were lost not looking to be found
Traveling to the ends of the earth
Found themselves discovered
At a four point crossroads
Poem: Absolution
The rattling of countless coins
Making resplendent sounds
In deep coffers stashed in gilded temples
Trumpeting the sound of generations of absolution
Where sinners payed to atone for sins
