It’s that time of year to bring out old boxes
Filled with trinkets of years past
Locked away after each Christmas
To try and save their magic for another year
That they still possess inside their fragile frames

She said I’m your gift to you
I held out my hands to hold hers
And she withdrew them twirling away
I’m a snowflake she said

I always said you were a present
And like a pretty gift wrapped box
You never know what’s inside
When you open up to the outside
