It’s Christmas time in the city
I’m feeling lonely on the streets
There’s no trees in the windows
Only a few scattered lights
Usually I love the vibrance here
This time of year it makes me feel

Poem: Tending to the Flowers
I know it’s late
Or maybe it’s early
Time doesn’t mean much
To me any more
When the hours are leaves
Just falling away
Poem: West of Amarillo
The road out here is so flat
You can smell the ocean breeze
Blowing across the Texas expanse
In this wide open stretch of earth
With windows down and radio up
Poem: On a Cold Day in September
Some days when it’s rainy
And I can’t face the day
I try to stay inside until
It all fades away like a
Leaf on the wind drifting
Aimlessly then it lands
To ride the streaming current
Along these dirty city streets
Poem: Old Habits Persisting
Behind dark windows
In my mind’s lonely eye
I still see your chair there
Where you sat for so long
Where I would see you
When I went walking by
Poem: A Girl Calm in Turmoil
Mina is the girl all the boys talk about
She’s the one that fills their dreams
And makes other girls doubt who
They are in moments in her presence
No one sees her when she’s alone
With all of her thoughts circling
About her brain like vultures waiting
To swoop and pick apart the remains
Poem: Empty Streets and an Empty Room
Her smell lingers like a ghost
on blankets strewn across the couch.
Out the window that is frosting
from the cold outside compared
to the warmth inside, and beyond
I see the street is empty.
She has moved on.
Poem: A Lonely Drive with Memories
As I drive these winding mountain roads
With an empty passenger seat
My mind goes to all my travels before
In every memory there’s always girl
Riding shotgun next to me laughing
Singing at the top of our lungs to a song
Windows down and hand on her thigh
Knowing there’s a destination ahead
Poem: A Bird Alone Optimistic
Feather wings spread wide
Filled with gusts of air
Soaring high outside
In the blue skies fair
He sings his sweet tune
To an unseen mate
Hoping soon she’ll swoon
And love will be fate
Poem: If Self-Doubt Was
If self doubt were a person
It would be Maria
Telling the voices to shut up
That whisper to her
About all of her shortcomings
The doctor prescribed her pills
To quiet them down
