Poem: The Girl of the Wild Horses
The smell of hay and horses
Reminds me of a girl in flannel
Shirts with ripped dungarees
Leather of real cowboy boots
Like someone out of a movie
Poem: Queen of California
11:11 and I’m making my wish
To be with you where you are
I picture you standing there
In your underwear in front
Of a full window overlooking
The lights of LA stretching out
Poem: Harboring Reservations About Freedom
Standing at the edge of the harbor
Where pretending with cold noses
We could smell English tea sinking
To the bottom set to a chorus
Of wild freemen cheering revolution
Poem: Three Boxes
When a box of bullets is cheaper than food
The lines between a good and evil blur
Through hungry eyes that starve for justice
My people clamor for succor at the well
Poem: Boredom
On fire escapes
Where we used to smoke cigarettes
Before it became passé
Killing time between being drunk
And the inevitable hangover
Poem: Experience Disconnect
Like a see-saw out of balance
Stuck with feet off the ground
Kicking against the air
Trying to come back down
But the grounding of her brain
Has become negative space
Poem: An Old Man Confronting Youth
Drinking in the night
Drunk on all her vanities
Sleeping it off during the day
Short memories give away
The suffering we have brought
