Poem: Weathering Rock

Her heart once soft and beating
Over time petrified
From lack of being held
Hardening to the world
Until it was a rock to the outside
While on the inside it was breaking
Like the slow drip of rain
Across the stalwart rock
Slowly wears it away
Drip by drip
As she watches out the window
As rain drop chases raindrop
She wonders how long
She can tolerate the slow erosion
Of loneliness that fills her life
Before she falls in two from her solitude
