Poem: With Age

I’ve been counting candles
So long I’ve lost track of the years
That grow long like my shadow
Trailing behind me as a cloak
Obscuring things passed
Barely remembered events
Some of which I’d like to recollect better
Though they’re draped in cobwebs of age
With work they can almost still shine through
But one of the most important lessons
That has come with age is to keep looking forward
Let the shadows have what they are due
While facing the path ahead
Lit with the rich sunlight of potential
