Poem: Machinations

The under current of electricity
Smell of rusty iron emanating
From the factory floor
Where human ingenuity merges
With the broken backs of human labor
A machine could do the work
Of a hundred men but here
The men still toil as human cogs
Used because they’re cheaper
Than the steel that could replace
And they are viewed as more disposable
When one breaks finds cheap replacement
To continue to grease the wheels
Of progress that is filling pockets
Other than their own as they grow
Lean and hungry under the strain
Worn to thin to rise up and protest
Just as their masters want them
