Poem: Coin Toss

Sometimes love is like a gamble
Where you lay all your chips down
Allowing the cards to fall where they may
Never recognizing the deck was loaded
And you were a loser from the start
But she’s that sweet addiction that calls
Come play with me some more
For the chance that this may be the time
When you walk away with the big prize
She’s like a coin flip in mid toss
It’s a gamble for which side you’ll get
Maybe it’s the unpredictability
That makes her lovely in her own way
So you pretend that you’re playing
With house money that doesn’t cost you a thing
While on the inside you’re frowning poorer
Day after day that you decide to stay
Until you’re used up and wrung out
Put back on the street left wondering
Where you can scrape up enough
To get her to let you play again
