Poem: Corporeal

In the early morning
When the sun still sleeps
I can hear the clock keeping time
Between her slumbering breaths
While I’m awake contemplating
The choices we made leading us on
To a space where seconds are excruciating
Waiting on you to awake again
Shining your brilliance on my concerns
Illuminating these dark corners of doubt
Where the fear that you’re not real
Haunts my weary waking mind
With disbelief that this is real
And that the dozing angel next door
Has traded in her feathered wings
For something corporeal
