Poem: City Roots

City roots are shallow by necessity
All that pavement doesn’t allow them
To run deep instead they go wide
Spreading out every which way
And what strange fruit is born
From a tree with roots like that
An indescribable ambiguous flavor
That is sweet and bitter simultaneously
Not to everyone’s liking yet with wide appeal
To those with more discerning tastes
Who can look past the dubious origins

I love this, Tom. Did you come up with the idea? Seriously, it’s brilliant.
