Poem: Wound Wound

The needle is the key
Sunken deep in her vein
Wound up like a clockwork toy
She teeters through motions
Slowing movements winding down
Spilling out on the floor
Melting thoughts spreading
Like a wound unstaunched
Draining of willfulness
Waiting for the key again

A response to d’Verse quadrille around the homograph, “Wound.”

  1. It makes me wonder what’s going on here. That Pink Floyd song, “Comfortably Numb” is coming to mind, but could she be a prisoner in a psych ward? A junkie in an alley? What isn’t said makes what is said that much better.

  2. My goodness this is incredibly potent! “Comfortably Numb” comes to mind but oh that “Draining of willfulness,” tells me there is more to the story! 💝💝

  3. I recently played around with this thematic lens myself not too long ago. I love the imagery you’ve established – a clever bit where humanity is dissolved into erratic bits of painful action. Good stuff, delicious.
