If self doubt were a person It would be Maria Telling the voices to shut up That whisper to her About all of her shortcomings The doctor prescribed her pills To quiet them down She’s thrown them away Because they weren’t working Now drunk and alone Their voices a quiet chorus With her being the conductor Of the downward spiral Towards madness That would set her free From all the worries That drag her down So she can be an angel Soaring above her indecision Released from the chains Of expectations others hang on her For a moment she’s an angel Beautiful in her freedom Before she sheds her feathers Plummeting back into those hands She’s held that hold her down
