Poem: Misses Jones

In an oceanside cafe Maria sits alone
Bare foot tapping time to the band
Playing flamenco music on stage
All the boys are calling to her
To show some of that Spanish dancing
Tonight though she defers with a smile
Her thoughts with Mister Jones
Out there somewhere in America
Trying to become a lion among cats
Waiting here where it began
Wanting something beautiful
Like he made her feel beautiful
Imaging herself in a fairy tale
Being carried off into the silence
Down to the New Amsterdam
Where she’s dreaming those dreams
About how they can both be big stars
