Poem: Morpheus

Still moments in the dawn
When blankets still cover
Dreams not yet stolen
By Morpheus into his realm
Soft breath slowing
The wakening heart
Beating fast in memory
Between the conscious
And unconscious tug of war
Over if she is still here
Or just wishful thinking
Held tight by fear
Beneath a hovering hand
Holding over where you would sleep
Pausing to linger with uncertainty
Only a hopeful moment longer
