Poem: Snowbird in Winter

Early morning snow fall
When the entire world waits
Snug in borrow and neat
Contemplating the trouble
Of rising for the day

A single note breaks
The peace of the dawn
Barely carrying on the wind
Before being swallowed
By the cold

The bird song is enough
To encourage the rising
Of the squirrel and deer
Seeking those few morsels
That will sustain until spring

As the red of morning gives way
To the bright blue of the day
Life stirs here in the glen
When everything else stays frozen
In impermanent permanence
